Itinerary

  • map

Bodrum, Marmaris, Fethiye and Gocek are homeport to the majority of gulets, therefore mainly boarding and disembarkation takes place at these resorts. Marmaris is usually the dividing point for a round trip charter. From there you go either south along the coast maybe as far as Kekova or even Kemer or Antalya depending on the charter period or north around two long peninsulas to Bodrum. While it is attractive, the northern route can be quite rough and windy in midsummer, whereas the southern route is less windy and more sheltered. When you are choosing an itinerary, you should be cautious against trying to cover too much ground-never more than 25 miles a day, if you want to enjoy scenery, and not nearly that rmuch if you arc going upwind. We suggest one long' downwind sail at the begining of the charter, then a leisurely time bay-hoping back to windward. South of Marmaris you can anchor at Ekincik, from there you take a small boat up the fabulous reed-fined Dalyan river to the ancient ruined city of Caunos and then go past Lycian tombs carved high on a cliff into lake Koycegiz and its sulphur baths. Or you can travel overland from the coastal town of Kalkan to the ruins of Xanthos, Patara and Letoon. Or you can swim around the partially sumberged ruins at Kekova. You could spend a week swimming in the bays of GOcek west of Fethiye. North and West of Marmaris tie your boat to a pine tree in Selimiye or anchor in a fjord called Bencik. Visit ruins at Cleaopatra's Island and the hillside of Knidos at the west end of the Datça Peninsula. Or spend a week at Gulf of Gokova, relaxing. Enjoy the waterfront marina Crusader castle and shops and the bazaar at Bodrum
