This region is unique on earth with its lunar landscapes unreal and fantastic, formed by fire, ashes, air and water. These landscapes are created by the extinguished volcano of Erciyas, the ancient Argaeus mount, that overlooks this region with its 3.916m of altitude. The lava and ashes erupted by the volcano were then shaped by erosion. These treasures of the nature were enriched by the first christians who chose this region away from common roads, to settle down and construct their troglodyte churches and monasteries by digging the tuff.
