The turquoise coast unfolds into hundreds of isolated bays, mountain fringed fjords, sleepy seaside villages and resort towns. Ashore if you think you have stubbed your roe on the base of a marble coloumn, you probably have. The southwest Turkish coast s littered with ancient ruins, most not excavated or fenced. Named after the civilizations that once existed on these shores, the coast can be divided into two areas. The Carian Coast runs from Kusadasi in the north and to Marmaris in the south and includes the quiet gulf of GuIIuk. the lively resort and yachting center of Bodrum, the gulf of Gokova, Datça, the gulf of Hisaronu . and Bencik one of the most popular yacht destinations. Archeological sites such as Ephesus. Miletus and Didyma are on this coast only a few miles inland and the cities of Lassos and Knidos are simply anchorages for yachts. The Lycian Coast is south east from Marmaris to Antalya. This shore is ringed with overlapping pine-clad green mountains whith descend to the sea. Ruins of ancient cities of Caunos, Patara, Kekova, Phasellis and Olympos are all visible by boat whereas Xanthos and Letoon are only a few miles inland.
